THE CALM BEEF AURA STORM
Biography
First formed by guitarist/vocalist Morgan Burmester, bassist Kyle Stewart, and drummer Wyatt Mylan in the midst of living in the blind fury of the party-laden college town Iowa City, IA. The members coalesced at a Dopapod show one fine evening in late Autumn of 2016 and decided to embark upon a quest to forge flavors of prog rock, industrial funk, reggae, and southern blues. The trio relocated to Des Moines, IA summer of 2017 and added the fourth member of the band guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Matt Van Natta who had been aggressively working on a solo EDM project until he was asked to join. The addition of Van Natta ushered in a new era of creation for TCBAS. Their ultimate vision grew into something greater than the likes of the four mere instrumentalists had ever expected; the covalent bonding of electric rock and electronic funk formed through spontaneous experimentation.
In a world were numerous entities are constantly fighting for our attention, tensions are on the rise and many are awakening to the reality that only we can (and must) consciously choose to take control of our own lives. This can mean something very different to each and every individual. The name “The Calm Beef Aura Storm” serves as a reminder that while there may inevitably be a storm on the horizon, our hearts and minds exist in the perfected state of preemptive contemplation that is the present moment and in that moment we can all consciously make the decision to love each other despite our differences. The band’s vision is to stand up against systems of injustice and individuals who attempt to prevent others from doing so. Though not always apparent in our society, altruism trumps fascism in the long run. Their beef is a calm one. A disagreement with the establishment. This calm beef manifests itself in an aura storm, which is spawned through the meeting of minds in musical collaboration. The quintet is now blossoming into full fruition as a progressive funk powerhouse capable of rendering many musical stylings with their own unique twist.
